What is Animal Therapy?

Animal Therapy can be defined as a process of treating disease or an undesirable condition through medical, rehabilitation, or supportive intervention. Companion animals and livestock of all types enhance this process through their ability to give unconditional love without inducing or increasing the fear of rejection in the human recipient.

This is valuable in enhancing the recovery from debilitative illnesses such as heart attack, strokes, and cancer; traumatic injuries that result in severe burns or the loss or use of arms, hands, or legs; victims of domestic violence or terrorist attacks; and crisis situations such as divorce, loss of a loved one, and negative changes in life's experiences.
