What is Zero Balancing?

Zero Balancing was developed in 1973 by Dr Fritz Smith, an American doctor, osteopath and acupuncturist. In order to understand health imbalances, he studied various methods including Rolfing, yoga, meditation and Oriental philosophies and finally developed Zero Balancing in 1975. Dr Smith practises and teaches Zero Balancing throughout the world.

Zero Balancing is a touch technique that combines Eastern and Western medicine.

Treatment aims to restore a smooth flow of energy throughout the body paying attention to ‘foundation' joints that act as shock absorbers for the weight distribution of the body and to breathing patterns, eye movements and stomach rumbles.

The treatment is aimed at balancing the deep structures of the body, the bone and skeletal system as these contain deepest currents, to help to create stronger presence of energetic fields.

The improvement to the energy flow can help to improve posture, increase harmony and the body's own self-healing ability and restore balance to the body/mind functions.

The practitioner uses gentle touch via the fingers to stretch and hold the client, who remains fully clothed. Treatment usually begins with the client sitting initially, then lying on their back on a treatment table.

By applying finger pressure and holding a stretch, deep tension can be released by providing a point of stillness to allow the body to relax and re-align itself, promoting a sense of wholeness and well-being. A session will usually last for 30 to 40 minutes.
